Dr. Geri Williams dives into whether or not consuming fat makes you fat in this health tips video from Ideal You Weight Loss.
Despite what you’ve been told, fat is not the enemy. In the 50’s and 70’s misleading research was done that gave dietary fat a bad name. First of all, whole food fats are essential building blocks for creating healthy cells and hormones in our body.
Secondly, not all fats are created equal. Half an avocado may have the same number of calories as some donuts. But, the avocado will supply your body with fuel it needs to build healthy cells while the donut is full of sugar and empty calories that will inflame your body’s systems and cause you to ultimately gain weight.
If you use oil when you cook, reach for avocado oil, coconut oil, and olive oil. Avoid oils like vegetable oil, peanut oil, and corn oil. The food industry also uses terms that lead you to believe a food is healthy when it really is not. Terms like fat free or low fat are often used to make a product sound healthier when in reality they’re often full of sweeteners to improve the taste.
Stick to whole food fats that supply your body with the kinds of nutrients and calories that it needs to function properly. Your heart and your waist line will thank you for it.
